My Goal

The whole middle area of America has been hit by two very big snow storms in less than one week.  The first one gave us between 12 inches to 14 inches of snow.  With no time for it to melt, the weather report is predicting another 12 inches of snow to blanket the whole area.  One of my goals for the year 2014 is to brave the cold and snow to go out and take as many photographs as possible of the winter scenes.  The weather sure has cooperated but without a 4 wheel drive car it has proven to be a much tougher challenge.

Between the two storms frigid temperatures has set in. Then the sun came out and it turned the whole snow covered areas into a picturesque photographers dream !!!

  1. I love snow ... from a safe distance, and preferably in a photo. :) This one is utterly gorgeous. I wonder if we'll get snow in Tokyo this winter. Well. I should say "snow" in quotation marks, since it's usually an inch or two, for a day or two. It's enough to disrupt the commuter trains, though, and that leads to jolly chaos. I hope we do get some ...

    1. Freshly fallen snow is beautiful and I love it too. I always get so excited when it starts falling. Ah.. I remember "snow" in Tokyo usually just enough to cover the ground and only lasts a day or so. The best kind....

  2. This is such a lovely photo! I love snow - skiing in it, hiking in it, whatever. Sadly it's been a dry fall/winter so far and our mountains are looking really bare.

  9. Snow does creates some awesome sights, but I am glad we do not get it like this. That is such an interesting sight. Looks like a blue candle laying on the sidewalk.

    1. LV Thank you so much for visiting my blog today. Until you pointed out the blue shadow looks like a candle I didn't see it, but with the reflection of sun at the top of the blue shadow it sure does resemble a candle. Great eye....

I love to see winter's snow very much. However, many places in Japan are not ready for deep snow as you know. Still I am waiting for snow comes.
Wish you a peace full and happy year 2014.

  15. Hi Noriko! Were there many people at the Arboretum? I'm afraid I just sat in the house and tried not to listen to the walls creak!
Beautiful, and you caught the sun too :)

  16. HI Ceil, When I took this photographs there were many people taking pictures from the car and at times I had to wait until they were done so that I can pass to go find a place to park. When I went yesterday in the snowstorm I only saw two people and the whole place was empty.

  17. We have been hearing about your freezing cold temperatures and storms over here in summery Australia. Take care - evidenly with the wind chill -50 you can get frost bite in under 5 minutes! However, I do love seeing snowy pics this time of year - so thanks for going out to take some pics for us. Stay warm, have a great week, and thanks for stopping by my blog this week.

  22. Perfectly lovely snow shot, Noriko-san! I heard about the frigid cold of America on TV news. Our winter going to be record cold, but for geographical reason, it rarely snows in Nara even when we are chilled to the bone. I wonder if this winter would be. Stay warm.

  25. Happy New Year Noriko. Thanks for dropping by my site. This shot and the way you described the landscape is really amazing most specially for me who hasn't experienced winter. But as the weather seems to be getting colder in your part of the world, i am almost thanking the Universe that I wasn't born in the temperate climate, lol.
