Sounds of Autumn

My husband said "It sounds like autumn out here".  I stopped and listened.  Well I know I am a little hard of hearing but what was he hearing?  Then I heard it..... the little rustle of golden leaves. A light breeze shook the trees and the beautiful colored leaves started falling making soft, barely audible swishing sounds. A little stronger breeze and all of the sudden plop, plop, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang... and I started dodging what was coming down on my head. What is it?  It was the sun ripened acorns and black walnuts hitting the ground and on our drive way. Yes, this is the unmistakable sounds of our autumn.  What does your autumn sounds like?

  1. Autumn is when the cicadas are replaced by bell crickets, suzumushi. Also, the yaki-imo man returns, and I can hear his call in the shitamachi's tiny alleys. Then I know ... it's autumn. :)

  11. Cool shot! Yesterday, our Autumn sounded like the pelting rain and high winds of a tornado watch...luckily it did not arrive! Aloha

  12. Our acorns started dropping early this year and are coming down in a rather noisy manner. Your leaf photo is great!

  17. Very nice image. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment on my blog. The gps I use is a Garmin Oregon. It's a few years old, so I don't know the exact model. However, for many of my hikes all I need is a paper map and I get around just fine. REI sells the "Green Trails" maps and they are excellent. Happy travels!

  18. Hi,Noriko san
I enjoyed the sound from your description. I heard the other music. I imagine that baroque music is about to begin from the yellow leaves in your photo! Have a good weekend!

  19. Hi Noriko! I love your description of the leaves and the nuts coming down. So poetic! And the photo is so beautiful too. Was the yellow color there, or was it enhanced? It's really fun to see the black outline of the leaves too.

Things are hopping here. So much FUN!

  21. Lovely idea considering the sounds and not the usual colours of Autumns. Amazing what can be noticed when stopping and listening.
