Swiss Chard

I found these Swiss Chard at the farmers market today. They were being sold at the flower shop to show the beautiful different colored stems. But I know that they are delicious as well.

Swiss Chard Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 large bunch of fresh Swiss chard
  • 1 small clove garlic, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • Pinch of dried crushed red pepper
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • Salt

Method

1 Rinse out the Swiss chard leaves thoroughly. Remove the toughest third of the stalk, discard or save for another recipe (such as this Swiss chard ribs with cream and pasta). Roughly chop the leaves into inch-wide strips.

2 Heat a saucepan on a medium heat setting, add olive oil, a few small slices of garlic and the crushed red pepper. Sauté for about a minute. Add the chopped Swiss chard leaves. Cover. Check after about 5 minutes. If it looks dry, add a couple tablespoons of water. Flip the leaves over in the pan, so that what was on the bottom, is now on the top. Cover again. Check for doneness after another 5 minutes (remove a piece and taste it). Add salt to taste, and a small amount of butter. Remove the swiss chard to a serving dish.

Peach Cobbler

I bought these beautiful peaches at the local farmers market and made peach cobbler for my hubby. But he went out of town so, I guess I am left alone to eat this luscious cobbler with sweet crunchy top.

Longaberger medium market basket

I have posted before about farmers market in my town. But today I wanted to share with you my basket that I use when I go to the market. It is a market basket handmade in USA from Longaberger. It is deep and sturdy enough to hold many items , it can be washed if something spills, and it is just a beautiful user friendly basket.

Birdhouse elves would love to have

To kill two birds with one stone, well, not really but why not put up a unique and fun birdhouse in your yard to help little birds and enjoy them at the same time. I found Steve's shop at out local farmers market today. He does woodworking and makes birdhouses. This particular one caught my attention, he used the grain of the wood and carved in a way that the front of the birdhouse resembled a Santa Clause. I bet little birds will feel extra special to have a house like this. Oh, by the way, Steve used to be in construction and has a blog site www.theconcretetruth.com check it out.

Farmers Market

I love Farmers Market, so with anticipation I headed down to my towns first Farmers Market for this summer season. I bought fresh tender asparagus, and apple tarts from the nun's. These apple tarts are not as sweet, but loaded with flavor and butter. Yum !!!
